America: We are discussing Hamas’ response and will not support the Rafah operation

Egypt Daily News - After the US State Department announced that Washington had received Hamas’ response and would study it with partners in the coming hours, the White House confirmed the same matter.

“We discuss Hamas’ response.”
White House spokesman John Kirby announced on Monday that US President Joe Biden had been informed of Hamas' response. He added that the US  administration is now working to evaluate the movement’s response and discuss its implications.

He also continued that Hamas' response came after discussions led by the Director of Central Intelligence, stressing that his country does not support any military operation in Rafah.

This came after the US State Department commented and announced that it was reviewing Hamas’ response to the truce proposal and evaluating it with partners as soon as possible. She added that Washington did not see a credible humanitarian plan that could be implemented before the operation in Rafah.

She stressed that a military operation now in Rafah would severely impede the delivery of humanitarian aid. These developments came after the Hamas movement announced in a statement, on Monday, that the head of the Political Bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, informed the Prime Minister of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani, and the head of Egyptian Intelligence, Abbas Kamel, of the movement’s approval of their proposal regarding the ceasefire agreement in Gaza.

An official in the movement had informed Al Arabiya that the movement had agreed to the proposed ceasefire proposal after the mediators’ response arrived on issues about which Hamas had requested inquiries. Meanwhile, the deputy head of Hamas in Gaza said that the ceasefire proposal is an agreement in three stages, each of which is 42 days long.

He added that the Egyptian mediators pledged not to resume the war in Gaza.

Rafah operation
It is noteworthy that Hamas's approval of the Egyptian proposal came hours after the Israeli army actually began forcing tens of thousands of Palestinians to leave large areas east of Rafah in preparation for the invasion of the city.

The movement's delegation is scheduled to head to Cairo in the coming hours to complete the discussion with the mediators about the possibility of concluding a ceasefire deal in Gaza.
