Egyptian journalist and film critic Yasmine Zohdi, as well as producer and director Mohamad El-Hadidi, were selected among 250 others to participate in this year's Berlinale Talents, an initiative of the 68th edition of the Berlin International Film Festival, which will take place between 15 and 25 February. Berlinale Talents is the annual summit and networking platform for talented filmmakers, screenwriters, film editors, producers, critics, actors and other young people involved with or passionate about the cinema industry.
Between 17 and 22 February, the 250 participants (128 women and 122 men) who represent 81 countries "will have the opportunity to engage with one another, with experts and the public, to critically question their own artistic standpoint and to further develop their film projects," reads the Berlinale press release. Each of the participants is recognized as having achieved a milestone in her or his career.
"Talents are generally in the fifth to tenth year of their careers and come with professional expertise and festival experience under their belts." Yasmine Zohdi is a writer, journalist, film critic and culture editor at Mada Masr. Between 2013 and 2014, she has been working at Ahram Online's Arts and Culture section.
Mohamad El-Hadidi has been working as an assistant director, cinematographer, producer and with camera and electrical teams. He has co-written, co-directed and produced The Mice Room (Odet El-Feran), a 2013 drama which was nominated to Muhr Arab Award at the Dubai International Film Festival 2013.
