We Salute
Few Honorable
men
By Ahmed Kamel
There still
remains a few honorable men, those who stand for principals
and for themselves. In 1967 Israel attacked the USS Liberty
killing 34 Americans and seriously injuring 170 more. This
could not have been a mistake since the attack was not just
a sole incident but a coordinated attack by the Israeli Air
force and Navy.
An obvious
reason for the attack was that Israel was about to commit a
major war crime of killing in cold blood the Egyptian
prisoners of war and they did not want anyone, including the
USA to hear or see the carnage.
The truth was
not allowed to be shown or heard and by order. Order from
people who had personal gains and who placed these gains
above their own country. These gains could be summarized in
one word " Re-election ". Yes, Re-Election, of whatever post
they where involved in. No US politician, so far, has ever
had the courage to challenge the events that led to the
death of 34 US navy men, or even call for an investigation,
simply so that he or she can get Re-Elected.
This was a major
triumph for Israel. They learned a very important lesson.
They learned that they could get away with murder! And they
did, again and again. The last murder was this year
with the
23-year-old American peace activist Rachel Corrie from
Olympia, Washington. (http://electronicintifada.net/v2/article1248.shtml)
But to a few
honorable men who knew the facts and refused to allow the
truth to fade away. A few honorable men,
who could not forget the murder onboard USS Liberty or let
it be forgotten. They leave a legacy that deserves to be
heard, one that may draw the light on the shadows that
thought were here to stay.
We salute them
all who hold on to their principals, especially
Rear Admiral
Merlin Staring and Staff Admiral Thomas Moorer. We salute
all those who served on the USS Liberty.
