In a speech marking the 52nd anniversary of Egypt’s October War victory, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi announced the launch of an international initiative and conference aimed at the reconstruction of Gaza. Speaking during the 42nd Armed Forces Educational Symposium, held at the Al-Manara International Conference Center in Cairo, President Sisi emphasized the importance of national unity and citizen participation in overcoming Egypt’s current economic challenges.

“The economic challenge can only be resolved through the will of the people, strategic planning, and the commitment of the state,” President Sisi stated. “But most importantly, it requires a deep understanding by the people and their readiness to endure the difficulties of this path.”

The president took a personal tone during his remarks, reminding the audience of his own background and shared experiences with ordinary Egyptians. “Before I became president, I was one of you and I still am,” he said. “I have seen what our neighbors and loved ones have endured. I speak not just of the past 40 years, but of a reality we continue to live today. And there is no other way forward but the path we are taking.”

While he acknowledged the hardships facing the country, President Sisi urged Egyptians to rally together, especially in support of humanitarian efforts beyond Egypt’s borders. The planned international conference for Gaza reconstruction is part of a broader Egyptian diplomatic and humanitarian push to aid Palestinians affected by the ongoing conflict.

The symposium, attended by senior military officials, public figures, and youth representatives, comes as part of Egypt’s national celebrations of its historic October 1973 victory, when Egyptian forces crossed the Suez Canal and reclaimed territory occupied by Israel during the 1967 Six-Day War.

President Sisi’s announcement reflects Cairo’s continued commitment to regional stability and its long-standing role as a mediator in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. While no specific date was given for the conference, the initiative signals Egypt’s intent to play a central role in mobilizing international support for Gaza’s reconstruction, as well as encouraging domestic contributions from Egyptian citizens.

As the region faces one of its most volatile periods in recent history, Egypt is positioning itself not only as a stabilizing force but also as a nation that, despite its own internal challenges, is willing to shoulder regional responsibilities in pursuit of peace and humanitarian relief.
