Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aati held a phone conversation focused on enhancing bilateral ties and addressing regional and international developments. The Egyptian minister reaffirmed Cairo’s commitment to its strategic partnership with Russia, describing it as a “governing framework” for cooperation across multiple sectors.

According to a statement from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, the two ministers emphasized the importance of continuing joint efforts on ongoing projects, including the Dabaa nuclear power plant and the Russian industrial zone in the Suez Canal Economic Zone. These initiatives aim to bolster Russian investments in Egypt and expand cooperation between the two countries.

The call also covered developments in the Gaza Strip. Abdel-Aati highlighted Egypt’s ongoing efforts to consolidate the Sharm El-Sheikh peace agreement and fully implement its provisions. He stressed the need to advance to the next phase of the plan, encompassing political, developmental, and humanitarian measures to ensure sustainable calm and regional stability.

Preparations for the upcoming International Conference on Reconstruction, Early Recovery, and Development in Gaza, set to be held in Cairo, were also discussed. Abdel-Aati emphasized the importance of mobilizing international support for the conference to facilitate the reconstruction of the territory and alleviate the humanitarian suffering of its residents.

The ministers further addressed the situation in Sudan, underlining the necessity of preserving the sovereignty and national institutions of the country, as well as its territorial integrity, while rejecting any parallel governing entities. Abdel-Aati reiterated Egypt’s long-standing support for Sudan’s unity and stability and outlined Cairo’s efforts within the framework of the Quadripartite Mechanism to achieve a ceasefire and advance peace efforts.

Abdel-Aati called for coordinated regional and international efforts to establish a comprehensive humanitarian truce and ensure safe access for aid deliveries to affected areas. He condemned the serious violations reported in Al-Fashir, expressed deep concern over the deteriorating humanitarian situation, and reaffirmed Egypt’s ongoing support to the Sudanese people.

The conversation reflects the continued high-level coordination between Moscow and Cairo, emphasizing both the economic and geopolitical dimensions of the bilateral relationship.
