Egypt Daily News – In his first comment on the current president’s withdrawal from the presidential race, former US President Barack Obama expressed his appreciation for Joe Biden, describing him as “a patriot of the highest caliber.”
Obama said in a statement after announcing the current president’s withdrawal from next November’s elections: “Joe Biden was one of the most courageous presidents in America, as well as a dear friend and partner of mine. Today, we have also been reminded once again that he is a patriot of the highest caliber.”
The former US President continued about Biden: “He helped end the pandemic, created millions of jobs, lowered the cost of prescription drugs, passed the first major gun safety legislation in 30 years, made the largest investment to address climate change in history, and fought to ensure… Labor rights,” he added: “At the international level, he succeeded in restoring America’s position in the world, revitalized NATO, and mobilized the world to stand up to Russian aggression in Ukraine.”
Obama attacked former President Donald Trump while praising Biden, saying: “More than that, President Biden has directed us away from four years of chaos, lies, and division that characterized Donald Trump’s administration.”
The former US President added: “Through his policies and personality, Joe reminded us of who we are at our best – a country committed to age-old values like trust, honesty, kindness, and hard work; a country that believes in democracy, the rule of law, and accountability; a country that insists that every person, no matter who they are, has a voice.” “He deserves a chance at a better life.”
Obama added: “This distinguished record gives President Biden every right to run for re-election and finish the job he started. But Joe understands more than anyone how much is at stake in this election, and how everything he has fought for his entire life, and everything the Democratic Party stands for… “It would be in danger if we allowed Donald Trump to return to the White House and gave Republicans control of Congress.”
The former US President added: “I also know that Joe has never withdrawn from a fight. For him to look at the political scene and decide that he must pass the torch to a new candidate is certainly one of the most difficult decisions of his life.
