Egypt Daily News – American tennis player Coco Gauff will join basketball star LeBron James in carrying the American flag at the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics the day after tomorrow, Friday.

The American team announced on its account on the social media network (X), today, Wednesday, that Gauff, 20 years old, will be the first professional American player to receive this honor.

Gauff is in second place in the world rankings and is one of the contenders for the gold medal in France, where tennis competitions are held on the courts of Roland Garros, which always host the French Open. Gauff’s most notable achievement was winning the 2023 US Open.

The American team had previously announced that LeBron James, winner of two Olympic gold medals, would be the men’s world champion.

James, 39 years old, a Los Angeles Lakers player, won gold with the US national basketball team in 2008 and 2012.

The opening ceremony is scheduled to be held on the Seine River instead of inside a stadium, in an unprecedented Olympic move.
