Egypt Daily News – Israeli warplanes launched a series of simultaneous raids at dawn on several areas in southern Lebanon in response to the launching of a missile towards Majdal Shams in the Golan.
Israeli aircraft raided the towns of Al-Abbasiya and Al-Burj Al-Shamali in the Tyre district, resulting in minor injuries who were transferred to the hospital following the Israeli raid on Al-Burj Al-Shamali.
The United Nations Special Coordinator in Lebanon, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, and the Commander of the UN peacekeeping force, General Aroldo Lazaro, urged the utmost restraint on the Lebanese-Israeli border.
This came after 12 people, including children, were killed as a result of a missile attack on a football field in the town of Majdal Shams in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, according to Sky News.
The two officials said in a joint statement: “We denounce the killing of civilians, including young children and teenagers, in Majdal Shams. Civilians must be protected at all times.”
The two UN officials called for an end to the intense and ongoing exchange of fire between Israel and Hezbollah. They added that the exchange of bombardments could ignite a broader conflict that would plunge the entire region into an unimaginable disaster.
The United Nations Mission in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and the Office of the United Nations Special Coordinator are in contact with both Lebanon and Israel with the aim of containing the situation.
European Union foreign policy official Josep Borrell condemned the missile attack that targeted the town of Majdal Shams, describing it as a “bloodbath.”
Borrell posted on the X platform in which he said: “Shocking photos from the football field in the Druze town of Majdal Shams. I strongly condemn this bloodbath.”
He continued: “We need an independent international investigation into this unacceptable incident,” adding: “We urge all parties to exercise maximum restraint and avoid further escalation.”
On Saturday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu threatened Hezbollah to pay a heavy price for its missile attack on Majdal Shams.
Hezbollah denied responsibility for the attack, which caused the largest number of deaths, whether in Israel or in the territories it annexed since the start of the conflict in Gaza on October 7th.
