Egypt Daily News – The recent diplomatic tension between Israel and Turkey has escalated after Israel’s Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz called for the Turkish deputy ambassador in Tel Aviv to be summoned for a rebuke.

This action follows Turkey’s decision to lower its flag to half-mast at its embassy in response to the killing of Ismail Haniyeh, the head of the Hamas political bureau. Katz expressed strong disapproval of this gesture, stating that Israel cannot accept any form of mourning for Haniyeh, whom he characterized as a terrorist responsible for violent acts, particularly referencing the atrocities committed on October 7.

In his statements, Katz emphasized that if Turkish embassy officials wish to mourn Haniyeh, they should do so in Turkey, suggesting a close alignment between Turkey’s leadership and Hamas. This incident highlights the ongoing complexities and sensitivities surrounding Israel-Turkey relations, particularly in the context of the Palestinian militant organization Hamas, which Turkey has historically supported.
