Egypt Daily News – The funeral of the head of the Hamas political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, was held in Qatar today, Friday, following his assassination in Tehran in a strike attributed to Israel.
The Israeli army had announced, for its part, that “the only strike that was carried out that night in the Middle East was the one that targeted Fouad Shukr in the southern suburb of Beirut,” however Haniyeh had a bomb planted in his room.
On Thursday afternoon, the coffin of Haniyeh, who was assassinated along with his personal bodyguard, arrived in Doha at his place of residence.
Prior to that, huge crowds participated in popular ceremonies for his funeral on Thursday morning in the Iranian capital, where the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, led the worshipers at Haniyeh’s funeral at Tehran University, and the mourners carried pictures of the head of the Hamas political bureau and Palestinian flags.
After the prayer, in the presence of Hamas’s second man, Khalil Al-Hayya, the coffin wrapped in the Palestinian flag was carried on the shoulders before being transported to the Lusail Cemetery to be buried in Qatar.
