Egypt Daily News – The situation in Middlesbrough, northern England, has escalated into chaos following a protest that began on Sunday afternoon.

The British police have reported multiple arrests and are urging the public to avoid the area. The unrest is part of a larger pattern of violent demonstrations observed across the country, with the British National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) reporting 147 arrests since Saturday night.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the violence, labeling it “far-right thuggery,” and asserted that those involved would be held accountable by the law.

He described the events not as legitimate protests but as organized violence and bullying. Starmer specifically referred to disturbing incidents in Rotherham, where a hotel housing asylum seekers was attacked, resulting in fear among residents and staff.

Highlighting the surge in attacks targeting Muslim communities and other minority groups, Starmer emphasized the need for a collective societal condemnation of such violence and pointed out the inappropriateness of using racial and religious intimidation.

He reassured affected communities that these violent acts do not reflect the values of the nation and stated that all crimes would be treated seriously.

In response to the growing unrest, the British Home Office announced emergency security measures aimed at protecting mosques across the country.

This includes expedited requests for the deployment of security forces to safeguard communities and facilitate the rapid return to worship. Home Secretary Yvette Cooper reiterated a zero-tolerance stance towards attacks on Muslim communities, affirming that participants in the chaos will face legal repercussions.
