Egypt Daily News – The signing ceremony for a significant marine works contract at the Dabaa Nuclear Power Station recently took place, attended by high-profile officials including Mr. Prof. Dr. Amjad Al-Wakil, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Nuclear Power Plants Authority, Engineer Ahmed Al-Assar, Chairman of the Arab Contractors Company, and Mr. Alexei Kononenko, Vice President of Rosatom ASE.
The contract, valued at $418 million, was signed by Engineer Hassan Mustafa, Vice President of the Arab Contractors Company, and Mr. Oleg Yakovlev, Director of Rosatom’s branch in Egypt. This project is a vital component of Egypt’s national energy strategy, aimed at enhancing the country’s capabilities in nuclear energy under the supervision of the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy.
Engineer Al-Assar highlighted that the project will involve the construction of two breakwaters totaling around 3 kilometers, a sedimentation basin covering one million square meters, and protective measures for marine life. Notably, one breakwater will stretch up to 1,650 meters, standing 10.20 meters tall and extending 21 meters underwater, marking it as the largest of its kind in the region and providing essential protection for the nuclear facility.
The project is designed with a strong emphasis on quality and environmental safety, utilizing advanced construction technologies and eco-friendly materials. It will involve substantial amounts of construction materials, including 600,000 cubic meters of concrete, 2.5 million cubic meters of rock, and 950 tons of rebar, along with extensive dredging operations and underwater piping installations. This initiative underscores the capabilities of the Arab Contractors Company to undertake large-scale infrastructure projects.
