Egypt Daily News – Heavy rains in northeastern Sudan’s Abu Hamad city have resulted in the deaths of 17 individuals and the collapse of numerous homes, as reported by a medical source from Abu Hamad Hospital.

The source indicated that victims lost their lives when their houses collapsed due to the severe weather. Many injured individuals continue to arrive at the hospital.

A witness described the destructive impact of the rains, noting that most houses and all shops in the market have collapsed.

The heavy rains, typical in Sudan from May to October, often lead to significant flooding, damaging housing, infrastructure, and agricultural lands. Last week, similar weather conditions claimed 5 lives in Port Sudan, situated along the east coast.

In total, the Federal Center for Emergency Operations in Sudan has reported that since July 7, heavy rains and flooding have resulted in 32 fatalities across 7 of the country’s 18 states.
