Egypt Daily News – On Thursday, Hamas reported the death of an Israeli detainee in the Gaza Strip, killed by his guard in what was described as a retaliatory action.

According to a military spokesman for Hamas’s Al-Qassam Brigades, the guard acted against orders after learning about the death of his two children in Israeli airstrikes.

The spokesman emphasized that the responsibility for the detainee’s death lies with Israel, accusing it of violating humanitarian standards and contributing to the suffering of Palestinian detainees.

This incident marks the second such occurrence within a week, following a previous report by Hamas of another Israeli detainee’s death and injuries to two female detainees as a result of gunfire from guards assigned to oversee them.

Hamas has stated that a committee is being formed to investigate these incidents and that these developments result from Israel’s actions, for which it bears full responsibility.

In response, the Israeli army indicated that it does not currently possess sufficient intelligence to confirm or deny Hamas’s claims and is assessing the situation.

Following the onset of hostilities on October 7, Hamas had taken 251 Israeli detainees into the Gaza Strip, with 114 still reported as being held, among which the Israeli army asserts that 42 have died.

Meanwhile, Israel’s military operations in Gaza have resulted in significant casualties, with over 40,000 deaths reported, largely affecting children and women, as per the Gaza Ministry of Health. The ministry noted that approximately 33% of the deceased are children, 8.6% are elderly, and 18.4% are women.
