President Sisi renews the mandate of Governor of the Central Bank for one year

Egypt Daily News – President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi issued Presidential Decree No. 343 of 2024 renewing the appointment of Hassan El-Sayed Hassan Abdullah as Acting Governor of the Central Bank for a period of one year, starting from August 18, 2024.

The decision was published in the Official Gazette, issue No. 33 bis, on August 17, 2024.

Hassan Abdullah born August 1, 1960) is an Egyptian financier. He is the current governor of the Central Bank of Egypt. He previously held the chief executive officer position of the Arab African International Bank (AAIB), a regional financial services institution that was Egypt’s first Arab multinational bank.

Abdullah first joined the AAIB in 1982 and became its CEO in 2002. He is also a board member at the American University in Cairo (AUC). In August 2022, Abdullah was appointed as the new acting governor of the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) by presidential decree.

Hassan Abdullah was born in Cairo in 1960 to Egyptian parents. He attended the Port Said School in Zamalek for his junior and high school education. He went on to attend the American University in Cairo (AUC), where he graduated with a BA in Business Administration in 1982. Abdullah returned to AUC in 1992 to receive his MBA.

In 1982, Abdullah joined AAIB with a position in the bank’s dealing room. He moved to AAIB’s New York City branch in 1988 while working in bond swaps to play a part in managing the bank’s US policy. In 1994 he got promoted to Assistant General Manager, then to General Manager in 1999. In 2002 he was appointed Vice Chairman and managing director of the bank.
