Egypt Daily News – US Secretary of State Antony Blinken emphasized the urgency of ongoing talks regarding Gaza, stating that they may represent the last opportunity for a truce and the return of hostages.

During his meeting with Israeli President Isaac Herzog, Blinken noted that the United States is actively working to prevent further escalation in the region.

This comes amid concerns of a potential Iranian retaliation against Israel following the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.

This visit marks Blinken’s ninth trip to the region since the escalation of hostilities in Gaza began in October of the previous year. His visit follows recent American proposals aimed at bridging divides between Hamas and Israel.

Additionally, President Joe Biden expressed optimism regarding the possibility of a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, despite indications that negotiations have stalled due to new conditions set by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Biden reassured that discussions were ongoing and reiterated that an agreement remains achievable.
