Egypt Daily News – The collapse of the Arbaat Dam near Port Sudan has resulted in a tragic loss of life, with over 132 victims reported by the Sudan Emergency Center.
The incident, exacerbated by torrential rains across the country, has raised significant concerns regarding the area’s water supply, which is critically dependent on the dam.
Reports indicate that at least 13 additional bodies have been recovered by rescue teams, who are actively searching for numerous individuals still missing. The search operations are being conducted by helicopter and civil defense teams.
In response to the severe weather conditions, the General Authority of Meteorology has issued warnings for several states, including the Red Sea, Nile River, North, Kassala, Gedaref, and North Darfur.
Heavy rains are anticipated in the Ethiopian plateau and the highlands of Eritrea, raising fears of potential flooding in various regions, particularly in the valleys and rivers of Gash and Atbara.
Authorities are urging citizens to exercise caution and preparedness as the situation continues to develop, highlighting the need for safety measures in light of the ongoing weather threats.
