Israel, soldiers run over

Egypt Daily News – Two Israeli soldiers sustained injuries in a hit-and-run incident that escalated into an exchange of gunfire at the Israel-Egypt border.

Reports indicate that a four-wheel drive Toyota vehicle deliberately struck the soldiers before firing upon them. Initial assessments suggest that the individuals involved in the attack may be linked to drug trafficking activities.

The incident reportedly occurred while Israeli forces were attempting to prevent a smuggling operation in the area. Early reports confirm that at least two soldiers were injured in the vehicle attack, and subsequent gunfire exchanges were noted at the border.

An Egyptian source clarified that what happened was an exchange of gunfire between an Israeli border guard unit and a group of smugglers in the Negev Desert.

He emphasized that there have been no incidents on the Egyptian-Israeli border.

Hebrew media reported on Monday evening that two Israeli soldiers were injured in a car-ramming incident followed by an exchange of gunfire at the border with the Republic of Egypt.

According to Israeli Channel 14, “soldiers opened fire on a speeding vehicle that approached them at the northern part of the border with Egypt,” noting that the vehicle withdrew from the scene.

The Israeli army stated in a statement: “During a military operation by our forces on the Egyptian border, soldiers spotted a speeding vehicle approaching them, so they initiated procedures to stop it (opening fire), and are searching for the suspects while conducting sweep operations in the area.”
