Egypt Daily News – The Israeli Commissioner for Prisoners and Missing Persons, Gal Hirsch, has made a controversial offer to Yahya Sinwar, the leader of Hamas, proposing that he and his family be granted safe passage out of the Gaza Strip in exchange for the return of hostages held by Hamas.

In an interview, Hirsch emphasized the objectives of ensuring the return of hostages, disarmament of militant groups, and the establishment of a new governing system in Gaza. He acknowledged that this proposal was made recently but did not disclose any response from Hamas.

Sinwar is widely viewed as a key figure behind Hamas’s military strategy, particularly before the attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, which has made him a prime target for Israeli security forces.

Reports suggest that Sinwar may be hiding within the extensive tunnel network in Khan Younis, making him difficult to locate.

Furthermore, Dmitry Polyansky, Russia’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, has voiced skepticism regarding Israel’s intentions, claiming that the ongoing negotiations for a prisoner exchange and ceasefire serve as a distraction while Israel continues its military operations in Gaza.

This highlights the complex and precarious nature of the current situation, where diplomatic overtures may be intertwined with ongoing conflict.
