Egypt Daily News – Hamas has expressed its readiness to promptly implement a ceasefire agreement with Israel in the Gaza Strip, following discussions led by its negotiating delegation.
This announcement aligns with statements made by U.S. President Joe Biden and previous agreements between the parties, with neither party setting new demands at this stage.
The Hamas delegation, led by Khalil Hayya, met with Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and Egyptian intelligence chief Abbas Kamel in Doha to discuss the ongoing situation in Gaza and the broader Palestinian issue.
Despite these discussions, efforts to finalize a ceasefire have yet to yield results, mainly due to unresolved issues, such as control over the Salah al-Din axis, a critical border area between Gaza and Egypt.
CIA Director William Burns, who is also the chief U.S. negotiator for Gaza, indicated that a more detailed ceasefire proposal would be forthcoming.
The current conflict, which began with a surprise Hamas attack on southern Israeli towns on October 7, has resulted in significant casualties on both sides.
Israeli statistics report around 1,200 deaths and approximately 250 hostages taken during the initial attack, while the Gaza Health Ministry cites over 41,000 Palestinian deaths and nearly 95,000 injuries due to ongoing Israeli military actions.Edit
