Egyptian Foreign Minister meets with several leaders of the American House of Representatives and Senate

Egypt Daily News – Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptians Abroad, continued his meetings within Congress during his current visit to Washington.

Today, Thursday, he separately met with Republican Congressman Mike Rogers, Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, Republican Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Foreign Operations Appropriations and Co-Chair of the Friends of Egypt Caucus in Congress, and Senator Lindsey Graham, Minority Leader of the Subcommittee on Foreign Operations Appropriations in the House.

Ambassador Tamim Khalaf, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, clarified that the Foreign Minister expressed gratitude to the members of Congress for their support of the strategic partnership between the United States and Egypt.

He also noted that during his meetings, there was an expression of mutual appreciation for the military aspect of the bilateral relations between the two countries, which represents one of the fundamental pillars of their partnership.

Minister Abdel Aati also reviewed with members of Congress the key developments in bilateral relations and the positive advancements taking place in Egypt on both economic and social fronts.

Minister Abdel Aati also emphasized the state’s efforts in developing political and civil rights, as well as economic reform initiatives. He highlighted Egypt’s focus on attracting foreign investments based on the opportunities provided by the Egyptian economy in various sectors, such as pharmaceuticals, energy, and new and renewable energy.

The ambassador added that the meetings of the Foreign Minister included a review of the role it plays and the efforts being made to achieve a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, emphasizing the need to intensify efforts to deliver humanitarian aid to the region, in line with the scale of the humanitarian disaster imposed by Israel.

Dr. confirmed. Abdul Aati emphasized the importance of working towards the establishment of an independent Palestinian state and creating a political horizon for the Palestinian people, ensuring their restoration of legitimate rights, foremost among them the right to self-determination. On their part, members of Congress were keen to praise Egypt’s important regional role and the efforts it undertakes in maintaining regional peace and security.
