Egypt Daily News – The United Nations has voiced deep concerns about the escalating violence in Lebanon following an Israeli air raid in the southern suburbs of Beirut, which resulted in the death of Ibrahim Aqeel, a prominent military leader in Hezbollah.

Stefan Dujarric, the spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, called for an immediate cessation of hostilities and urged all parties involved to exercise maximum restraint.

The Israeli military confirmed the targeted killing of Aqeel, stating that he was a key figure within Hezbollah, serving as the head of its operations system and commander of the “Radwan” special forces.

The Israeli army claimed that the strikes were based on intelligence from its Military Intelligence Directorate and resulted in the elimination of several high-ranking Hezbollah leaders alongside Aqeel.

The military emphasized that Aqeel and those killed were involved in planning operations intended to attack Israeli territory, specifically in reference to a Galilee invasion plan.

The airstrike has drawn reactions from various quarters, and the Lebanese Ministry of Health reported casualties that included 14 fatalities and 66 individuals injured as a result of the strikes on the southern suburbs.

The situation remains tense and precarious, with the UN highlighting the need for immediate dialogue and self-restraint to prevent further escalation.
