Egypt Daily News – The American Watson Institute, affiliated with Brown University, has published research indicating that Washington covered approximately 70% of the costs associated with the Israeli military operations in Gaza and Lebanon, with the total estimated expenditure reaching at least $22.76 billion.
The report suggests that the actual financial burden is likely higher, as it does not account for the costs of recent American reinforcements sent to the region.
According to the findings, about $17.9 billion of the total has been allocated specifically for Israeli military operations, marking the largest financial support from the U.S. to Israel since the onset of foreign aid in 1959.
The researchers highlighted challenges in obtaining accurate data from primary sources, which complicates the effort to assess the comprehensive nature of Israeli military funding since the conflict began.
Additionally, the report clarifies that the $17.9 billion represents only a portion of the overall budget designated for Israel. It does not encompass other substantial categories of spending, such as recent increases in U.S. security assistance to countries like Egypt and Saudi Arabia, among others.
