US Elections 2024

Egypt Daily News – As the election approaches, voter turnout has reached significant levels, with over 62 million Americans having cast their ballots so far.

Data indicates that more than 33 million opted for in-person voting, while over 28 million returned mail-in ballots.

In key battleground states like Nevada, where candidates are actively campaigning, over 872,000 ballots have already been submitted. However, tensions have escalated as election workers in Milwaukee face challenges from activists aligned with Donald Trump’s claims of election fraud from 2020.

These activists have begun to challenge every mail-in ballot, raising various complaints during the absentee ballot counting process. Local election officials report that this behavior appears to be an attempt to intimidate poll workers.

Concerns have been raised about the possibility of these actions being a precursor to larger disruptions on November 5, the day of the presidential election, which features Trump against Vice President Kamala Harris.

Wisconsin, a critical state that Biden narrowly won in 2020, is under particular scrutiny, with four election officials warning that widespread ballot challenges could disrupt the counting of mail-in votes.

The Republican National Committee and the Wisconsin Republican Party have prepared over 5,000 election observers to monitor the election, claiming their aim is to maintain the integrity and efficiency of the process.

Activists intend to closely scrutinize mail-in ballots, focusing on potential issues such as non-U.S. citizens voting, improperly registered college students, and individuals lacking valid photo identification.

In response, Democratic officials are mobilizing tens of thousands of volunteers to protect voter rights, actively countering what they describe as “MAGA Republicans’ attacks on our democracy.”

Election officials in Wisconsin are responding to these challenges by increasing security at polling locations compared to the previous election in 2020.
