Egypt Daily News – Karen Makishima, Japanese parliamentarian and former Minister of Digital Affairs, Information Technology and Regulatory Reform in Japan, praised the successes achieved by Egypt in implementing the Japanese-style education system in Egyptian-Japanese schools, stressing the importance of benefiting from Egypt’s experience in Japan’s support for development in Africa in the field of education.
This came after the participation of Mohamed Abdel Latif, Minister of Education and Technical Education, via video conference technology, in the “Friends of Education” forum organized by the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) under the title “The Japanese-style education system and future prospects towards the Ninth Tokyo International Development Conference in Africa (TICAD 9): Learning from Egypt’s Experience.
Makishima confirmed, in an article published on her official page on the social networking site “Facebook”, that the Japanese-style education system in Egyptian-Japanese schools, “Tokatsu”, has been successfully introduced in Egypt, where 16,226 students are currently studying in 55 Egyptian-Japanese schools. With the participation of 2,671 teachers who received specialized training.
She emphasized her visit to an Egyptian-Japanese school in January 2020, where she noticed the students’ positive behaviours, skills and habits, their integration into learning activities, and their acquisition of skills such as taking responsibility, valuing oneself and others, and other life skills and values by allocating 45 minutes a week to tokatsu activities.
She also stressed the importance of continued cooperation between Egypt and Japan to enhance the Japanese-style education system in Egyptian-Japanese schools, expressing her aspiration to continue working and striving to implement this style in more than 1,700 government schools by 2027.
