Egypt Daily News – The head of the Palestinian Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Authority, Qaddoura Fares, said that the occupying state refused to release the most prominent symbols of the Palestinian Liberation Movement within the first phase of the negotiations, explaining that among those prisoners who were excluded from the exchange deal were: Marwan Barghouti, Ahmed Saadat, Ibrahim Hamed, and Abdullah. Barghouti, in addition to a number of other prominent figures in the Palestinian movement.

The head of the Palestinian Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Authority indicated, in press statements to Palestinian media, that Israel stipulated that the released prisoners of the Wafa al-Ahrar deal be deported outside Palestine, as a condition for completing the deal, adding that Israel also imposed the deportation of about 250 Palestinian prisoners, most of whom were sentenced to life imprisonment.

The truce took effect on Sunday
The truce took effect yesterday, Sunday, after Egypt, Qatar, and the United States of America announced the success of negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian factions for a new prisoner exchange deal, as the talks focused on the release of a number of Palestinian prisoners in exchange for the release of Israeli prisoners.

This deal comes in the context of the ongoing efforts to achieve a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, which has continued since the seventh of October last year, as well as the liberation of prisoners who are languishing in Israeli prisons, especially those suffering life sentences or who are considered symbols of the Palestinian national movement.
