Egypt Daily News – France commented today, Wednesday, on US President Donald Trump’s statements regarding his plan that requires the United States’ control over the Gaza Strip after resettlement of the Strip residents elsewhere, where Paris confirmed its absolute rejection of the US President’s statements.
The French Foreign Ministry said in a statement made by the ministry spokesman, Christophe Lemoine, that this plan is a serious violation of international law and contributes to destabilizing the region.
Lemoine added that France confirms its opposition to any forced displacement of the Palestinians from Gaza, noting that this constitutes an attack on the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinians. He added that such plans are a major obstacle to a two -state solution and a threat to the stability of Egypt, Jordan and the whole region.
Lemoine explained that the future of Gaza should be part of a future Palestinian state, and not under the control of a third country.
Trump had announced at a press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu his plan to control the Gaza Strip, stressing that the United States will take over the resettlement of the Palestinians in neighboring countries. Gaza also described it as a “Middle East Riviera”, a reference to the French Riviera region, describing the plan as a great opportunity.
