Abu Dhabi Ports begins developing a logistics area in Alexandria Port

Egypt Daily News – Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development, and the Minister of Industry and Transport, confirmed that the ministry continues to implement a comprehensive plan to develop its Egyptian maritime transport system and seaports with the aim of converting Egypt into a regional center for transport, logistics and transit trade in implementation of directives President Abdel Fattah El -Sisi.

This came during the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Holding Company for Maritime and Land Transport – one of the companies of the Ministry of Transport – and Abu Dhabi Ports Group regarding the development of a logistics area in the port of Alexandria.

The signing was witnessed by Lieutenant General Engineer Kamel Al-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, in the presence of Ambassador Maryam Al-Kaabi, Ambassador Emirates in Cairo, Mohamed Al Shamsi, Managing Director and CEO of Abu Dhabi Ports Group, Major General Nihad Shaheen, Deputy Minister of Transport for Maritime Transport, Major General Ahmed Hawash, Chairman of the Alexandria Port Authority, and Engineer Mohamed Fathi, Assistant Minister for Maritime Transport.

The importance of developing a logistical area in Alexandria Port

The Minister pointed out that the Ministry of Transport is planning to establish 32 dry ports and logistics areas nationwide, pointing to the importance of the logistics area project in Alexandria Port, which has an area of ​​273 acres as a first phase, while the area of ​​the second phase is 600 acres, stressing that this region will witness many industries and fields related to transportation. Maritime, complementary industries, and value-added industries, led by the container industry, are among the new industries planned to be introduced to Egypt.

He added that the region will witness the first activity of warehousing, importing, exporting, customs filing and re-exporting, and will also witness the second activity of packaging and simple manufacturing of agricultural products, small and simple manufacturing industries, as well as simple industries based on some oils contained in large containers and tanks, and all value-added industries that Contributes to improving the product, whether imported or exported.

He revealed that the third activity of these industries that the logistics zone will witness is the activity of manufacturing paper cartons, bags, and “20-foot and 40-foot” containers, adding that quality control and ensuring the suitability of products imported and exported from that zone is the fourth of those activities, and it is a very important activity to ensure that there are no defects in these materials and they meet international quality standards.

He added that this area will have an interchange station in the Amriya area linked to the high-speed electric train, as well as to the “Al-Manashy – Al-Ittihad – Al-Qabbari” railway line to transport goods and products to all parts of the Republic.

It is worth noting that the logistics zone in Alexandria Port is considered an important center within the “Sokhna-Alexandria Integrated International” logistics corridor and ensures achieving the highest efficiency in operating the logistical corridor to support the state’s strategy towards transforming into a regional center for transport, logistics and transit trade, as well as making Egypt a regional industrial center.

The memorandum was signed by Dr. Amr Mostafa, Executive Managing Director of the Holding Company for Maritime and Land Transport, and Captain Ahmed Ibrahim Ali Al Mutawa, Regional CEO of Abu Dhabi Ports Group.
