Egypt Daily News – Syrian artist Jamal Suleiman announced his willingness to run for the position of President of the Syrian Republic, after the fall of the regime of deposed President Bashar al-Assad, indicating that his decision is linked to the will of the Syrian people.
Suleiman added in an interview on Al-Arabiya channel: “I have the desire to run for this position, but this is not a condition. If I find someone more suitable than me, I will support him, but if the Syrians want, I will be ready.”
Suleiman stressed his desire to break the psychological barriers established by the previous regime, explaining: “The regime implanted in us the idea that we cannot say we want to become a minister, prime minister, or president of the republic unless they indicate that, but this is our right as Syrians.”
Suleiman stressed that the alternative to the current regime does not necessarily have to be a terrorist or exclusionary group, adding: “The alternative may be a moderate person who believes in democracy, has an academic, artistic and cultural background, and has spent his life serving these values.”
