Egypt Daily News – Ahmed El Gendy made history by winning the gold medal in the men’s modern pentathlon at the 33rd Olympic Games held in Paris from July 26 to August 11. He achieved an impressive score of 1,555 points, setting a new Olympic record in the process.
El Gendy had already shown his prowess by topping the semi-finals, where he broke the existing Olympic record with a score of 1,516 points. This gold medal marks his second Olympic achievement, following his silver medal from the Tokyo Olympics.
With El Gendy’s victory, the Egyptian delegation’s medal tally at the Paris Olympics increased to three, including his gold, Sarah Samir earned a silver medal in weightlifting, and Mohamed El Sayed secured a bronze in fencing.
This year’s Egyptian team is notable for being the largest in its history, comprising 148 main athletes and 16 reserves, totaling 164 competitors across 22 sports. This delegation is also recognized as the largest ever from the Arab world and Africa, showcasing Egypt’s growing prominence in international sports.
