Air China celebrates

Egypt Daily News – In a symbolic and strategic move, Air China, the flag carrier of the People’s Republic of China, launched its first direct flight from Beijing to Cairo, marking the beginning of a new chapter in Sino-Egyptian connectivity. The inaugural flight touched down at Cairo International Airport and was greeted with a traditional water cannon salute, a ceremonial welcome typically reserved for inaugural flights and significant aviation milestones.

The occasion was celebrated with an official ceremony at the airport, attended by senior officials including Montaser Manaa, Egypt’s Deputy Minister of Civil Aviation; Magdy Ishaq, Chairman of the Cairo Airport Company; and Ahmed El-Fangary, Chairman of the Egyptian Aviation Services Company. The event underscored the importance of the route as a symbol of deepening bilateral cooperation.

Air China, one of Asia’s largest and most influential carriers, is known for its extensive global network and as a member of the Star Alliance. The addition of Cairo to its network reflects the airline’s strategic efforts to expand into key markets across Africa and the Middle East. Starting with three weekly flights, the route aims to serve growing demand for travel, trade, and tourism between China and Egypt.

“This new direct connection between Cairo and Beijing is not only about transporting passengers; it’s about building bridges between two ancient civilizations with dynamic modern economies,” said one official during the ceremony.

The launch comes at a time of expanding Chinese investment in Egyptian infrastructure and growing interest among Chinese tourists in Egypt’s historical and cultural landmarks. It also complements Egypt’s ongoing efforts to diversify its tourism markets and reinforce its position as a regional aviation hub.

In addition to passenger services, the new route is expected to facilitate increased air cargo capacity, supporting trade flows between the two countries. Egypt has been positioning itself as a logistical gateway between Asia, Africa, and Europe, and the arrival of Air China further enhances that vision.

Ground handling and operational support for Air China at Cairo International Airport will be provided by the Egyptian Aviation Services Company, ensuring smooth integration into the airport’s infrastructure and service ecosystem.

The move is widely seen as a testament to the growing strategic partnership between Egypt and China, and it is anticipated that the route will evolve into a vital artery for economic and cultural exchange in the years ahead.
