Egypt Daily News – A tragic traffic accident in Egypt has resulted in the deaths of 12 students and injuries to around 33 others. The incident involved a bus carrying students from Galala University in Suez Governorate, which overturned while en route to Cairo.

Upon receiving reports of the accident, local authorities in Suez dispatched numerous ambulances to transport the victims and the injured to medical facilities.

Investigations indicated that the bus was filled with medical students returning home after classes when it overturned on the Galala road. Dr. Ismail Al-Hafnawi, the Director of the Health Care Authority in Suez, announced a state of emergency and called in all medical staff to assist with the injuries. The prosecution has been informed and is currently conducting an investigation.

The Ministry of Health reported an initial tally of 25 injuries and 7 fatalities from the crash. Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health, instructed that emergency medical services be provided to the accident victims.

He also assigned his deputy, Dr. Mohamed El-Tayeb, to visit the Suez Medical Complex and oversee the situation. The Egyptian Ambulance Authority sent 24 ambulances to the scene, and rescue operations are still ongoing.

Survivors of the Al-Jalala bus accident shared their harrowing experiences. Ahmed, a third-year medical student, recounted the moments leading up to the overturning, describing the sudden shift of the bus and the chaos that ensued. He expressed his shock at seeing fellow students either in pain or unresponsive upon regaining consciousness.

Another survivor, Ali, a second-year student, described the terrifying moment when the world seemed to turn upside down. He recalled being trapped beneath other students after the bus flipped, emphasizing that the scene was one he would never forget. A student named Abdulrahman inscribed on the Galala University Facebook group that the bus had flipped three times, shattering windows and tossing students out.

As news of the tragedy spread, social media flooded with condolences and expressions of sorrow from peers at Galala University, who were in disbelief over the loss of their classmates. Touching farewell messages reflected the deep pain felt by the community, with one student lamenting the senselessness of the accident that claimed innocent lives.

The grief extended beyond the student body to the wider community, which united in support for the victims’ families and injured individuals, emphasizing the urgent need for enhanced road safety measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.

In response to the accident, the Ministry of Health and emergency teams worked tirelessly to provide care for the injured. Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar declared a state of emergency at nearby hospitals and arranged for medical personnel to monitor developments at the scene. Officials also assured that psychological and social support would be offered to the families of those affected and the surviving students.
