Boeing has secured a large order for up to 225 aircraft from Turkish Airlines, marking a major win for the American aerospace company. The deal was announced after a meeting at the White House between former U.S. President Donald Trump and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Details of the order:
- 50 confirmed orders for the 787 Dreamliner, with an option for 25 more
- 150 additional aircraft from the 737 MAX series, including:
- 100 confirmed orders
- 50 optional units
- These include both the 737 MAX 8 and 737 MAX 10 models
The deal is still contingent on a successful agreement with engine supplier CFM International.
This announcement comes as Turkish Airlines aims to nearly double the size of its fleet over the next decade. The airline is positioning Istanbul as a global aviation hub, hoping to compete with airports in Dubai and other major regions.
In 2023, Turkish Airlines also signed a deal with Airbus to purchase up to 230 aircraft, both wide-body and narrow-body.
Trump’s involvement:
Trump has publicly taken credit for helping facilitate major Boeing sales in recent months. He previously cited his role in:
- British Airways’ decision to purchase U.S.-made aircraft
- A record-breaking order from Qatar for wide-body planes, the largest in Boeing’s history
The Turkish Airlines deal adds to the narrative Trump is promoting, that his relationships with world leaders have directly contributed to high-value American exports.
This order is a major commercial victory for Boeing as it competes with Airbus in the global aircraft market. For Turkish Airlines, it represents a significant step toward becoming one of the world’s leading international carriers.
