Egypt Daily News – The European Union representative for foreign, political and security affairs, Josep Borrell, considered that the return of Donald Trump to the presidency of the United States means that Europeans must rely on themselves to protect their security.

Borrell added that the European Union will face great difficulties if the Trump administration reduces military aid to Ukraine. He also made clear that the Europeans do not have the ability to replace American weapons in Ukraine.

Economic consequences

He also said that President Trump’s planned tariffs would lead to severe economic consequences internationally.

Yesterday, Borrell said during an interview with the Spanish newspaper El Pais that “Europe is in danger,” calling on the Europeans to bear responsibility for themselves, because they cannot depend on the mood of the American elections every four years, as he put it.

Economic consequences
He also said that President Trump’s planned tariffs would lead to severe economic consequences internationally.

He also pointed out that the issue of Europe’s defense capacity emerged against the backdrop of the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, pointing out that the defense model that prevailed was “less is better,” because everyone was always thinking about increasing pensions, but the Ukrainian crisis made the Europeans think about, they need to have more power to defend themselves as well.

Settlement of the dispute in Ukraine
It is noteworthy that Republican candidate Donald Trump won the US presidential elections on November 6. The new Congress is supposed to approve the results of the vote, and Trump will officially assume his duties at the inauguration ceremony next January 20.

Trump promised during his election campaign that he would achieve a settlement in the conflict in Ukraine within just one day.
