Egypt Daily News – Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s complete rejection of any justifications for Israeli occupation and aggression against Syrian territory.

During a joint press conference in Cairo with European Commissioner for the Mediterranean Dubravka Šuica, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s rejection of Israeli occupation and aggression against Syrian territory under any pretext, including humanitarian justifications for protecting the rights of specific minorities. He stressed the need to preserve Syria’s territorial unity and respect its sovereignty.

Abdelatty also discussed with the European official the situation in Syria, emphasizing the importance of combating terrorism and launching an inclusive political process.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Katz recently instructed the military to prepare to defend the Druze community in Jaramana, a city near Damascus, citing alleged attacks by Syrian forces.

A statement from Netanyahu and Gallant declared: “We will not allow the extremist Islamic terrorist regime in Syria to harm the Druze. If the regime harms the Druze, we will harm it in return.”

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar also stated that “Israel has good relations with the Druze community” and called on the Syrian government to respect them.

These Israeli statements followed reports that Syrian security forces had launched operations in Jaramana to pursue wanted individuals after one of their members was killed in a shooting incident.

Jaramana is home to a diverse population of Syrians, with Druze and Christians making up the majority. Additionally, thousands of Syrians displaced from various cities and provinces have taken refuge in the city to escape the destruction in their home regions.

Egypt urged the international community to monitor the situation closely and ensure that the rights and security of all minorities in the region are protected. It also reiterated its stance on respecting national sovereignty and preventing external interference in the internal affairs of other nations.
