Egypt Daily News – Despite the massive destruction and demolished homes caused by Israeli aggression, welcomed the month of Ramadan with hearts full of hope and faith, defiance and resilience, undeterred by sorrow or the losses surrounding them.
And amid the ruins of homes and in streets where the sky is the only roof, young Palestinian volunteers organized the longest Iftar table in the city of Rafah, under the slogan “Gaza Fasts on Hope,” sending a message of compassion, social solidarity, and resilience despite the harsh conditions.
The organizers of the initiative emphasized that the event aimed to revive the Ramadan atmosphere that had long characterized the region before the occupation altered the city’s landscape and imposed siege and destruction. One participant said, “Today, we bring joy to people’s faces here amid the rubble… Gaza is more beautiful in Ramadan, and it is in our hands to keep it that way.”
Additionally, municipalities and youth groups in Gaza launched various initiatives to help people overcome the effects of the aggression, including street-cleaning campaigns, debris removal, mural painting, and organizing more communal Iftar gatherings. In a touching Ramadan scene amid the devastation, over 5,000 Iftar meals were prepared and distributed to families, reaffirming that despite its wounds, Gaza remains unbroken and that the will to endure and persevere is stronger than the occupier’s attempts to break their spirit.
For many, this iftar was not just about breaking the fast, it was a message of perseverance and defiance against all odds. “Even amid devastation, we hold onto our faith, traditions, and sense of community,” one participant said.
As the call to prayer resonated through the destroyed streets, Gaza’s residents proved once again that their spirit remains unshaken, turning their suffering into a powerful expression of hope and resistance.
