20 killed and 24 injured at Al-Obour factory fire

EgyptDailyNews - Governor of Qalyubia, Abdul Hamid Al-Hagan, has formed a technical committee of specialists to conduct an inspection of the Al-Obour factory garment fire and the adjacent buildings, to investigate the extent of their structural safety and whether or not they are affected structurally by the fire.

The governor followed up with the firefighters the Al-Obour factory fire around the clock as soon as he received a report of the outbreak of the fire in one of the ready-made clothes factories in the youth housing area in Al-Obour City.

A statement issued by the Qalyubia Governorate said that the fire broke out at about eleven o'clock this morning, and the factory consists of four floors, where 6 ambulances were directed from Qalyubia governorate, and 4 ambulances were directed from the Cairo and Eastern governorates, aditionally 11 firefighting engines were directed from Qalyubia, plus 2 from Cairo governorate and 2 from Sharkia governorate, with a total of 15 firefighting engines.

The accident resulted in the death of 20 people so far, 16 of them were transferred to Al-Salam Hospital in Cairo and 4 to the mental health hospital in Al-Khanka. 24 people were injured, 5 of them were transferred to Belbeis Hospital in Al-Sharqiya and 19 to Al-Salam Hospital in Cairo, where the Civil Protection Department controlled the fire and the cooling work was underway.

The governor offered condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery for the injured, directing Dr. Khaled Abdel-Ghani, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health in Qalyubia, to provide care for the injured inside hospitals.

For his part, Al-Hajjan directed the continuation of the cooling process and the protection of the lives of citizens. On his part, the Governor thanked the Civil Protection men for their efforts in extinguishing the fire.

The General Syndicate of Spinning and Weaving, headed by Abdel Fattah Ibrahim, mourned the victims of the clothing factory fire in the industrial zone of Obour City. 

In an urgent statement, the General Syndicate stated that it extends condolences to the families of the deceased, wishing a speedy recovery for the injured, and calls on those concerned in the Ministry of Health and the Governorate of Qalyubia to provide care for these injured people inside hospitals, compensate the families of the deceased, as well as the continuation of the cooling process in order to protect the lives of citizens, and provide all forms of safety and health. Professionalism in industrial areas to avoid a repeat of the accident.

The General Syndicate said that the factory is located on an area of 2000 meters, and it consists of four floors, and the owner of the ground floor works in the field of producing ready-made clothes, and that the fire broke out at about eleven o'clock on Thursday morning, and officials are still continuing to follow the developments resulting from the accident in addition to Providing health and psychological care for those affected by the effects of the fire.
