BRICS decides to temporarily stop accepting new members to the group

Egypt Daily News - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the BRICS countries have decided to "pause" regarding the admission of new members.

Lavrov added in a meeting with the Speaker of the Belarusian House of Representatives, Natalia Kochanova: By an overwhelming majority, the 10 countries decided to pause with new members to “accommodate” the new members who doubled the association.

Lavrov, who is on an official visit to Belarus, added: “At the same time, we are working on classifying the categories of partner countries as stages that precede full membership, and we will support our Belarusian friends as well as a number of other like-minded countries.”

A meeting of BRICS foreign ministers was held in Nizhny Novgorod on June 10-11.
