Egypt welcomes the International Justice Department’s decision to oblige Israel to stop the attack on Rafah

Egypt Daily News - In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today, Egypt welcomed the decision issued by the International Court of Justice to impose additional temporary measures on Israel, demanding the immediate cessation of Israeli military operations and any other measures in the Palestinian city of Rafah that would impose living conditions on Palestinians in Gaza that threaten their survival, in whole or in part. 

Opening the Rafah crossing to ensure full and unhindered access to humanitarian aid for the residents of the Gaza Strip, in addition to the court’s emphasis on the necessity of implementing previous measures issued by it, including opening all land crossings between Israel and the Gaza Strip.

Egypt called on Israel to comply with its legal obligations, within the framework of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, and international humanitarian law, and to implement all interim measures issued by the International Court of Justice, which are considered legally binding and enforceable, as they are issued by the highest international judicial body. 

Egypt stressed that Israel bears full legal responsibility for the deteriorating humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip as the occupying power. demanding Israel to stop its systematic policies against the Palestinian people of targeting, starvation and siege in violation of all provisions of international law and international humanitarian law.

Egypt considered that the court’s decision was consistent with the current tragic situation inside the Gaza Strip, and the continued expansion of the killing and destruction that affected the defenseless Palestinians and the entire infrastructure system in the Strip as a result of the Israeli war, noting its previous warning of the dangers of Israel undertaking military operations in the Palestinian Rafah due to its direct repercussions on... Exacerbating the humanitarian crisis for more than 1.4 million Palestinians.

Egypt also called on the Security Council and influential international parties to fulfill their legal and humanitarian responsibilities by adopting decisive measures to put an end to the humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip, a comprehensive ceasefire, ending military operations in the Palestinian city of Rafah, ensuring the full flow of aid throughout the Strip, and protecting crews.
