Israeli source: The Rafah operation is limited and its goal is to pressure Hamas

Egypt Daily News - Israeli sources revealed that Tel Aviv, through the attack on Rafah and sending a negotiating delegation to Cairo, is seeking to pressure Hamas to review the terms of the ceasefire.

The I24 News channel quoted an Israeli source as confirming that the military operation in Rafah is very limited and aims to pressure Hamas to accept the truce agreement.

For his part, a senior Israeli official said that an Israeli delegation will travel to Egypt in the coming hours to assess the extent to which Hamas can change its position regarding the ceasefire proposal.

He added to Reuters: "The delegation is composed of mid-level envoys. If a real agreement is reached in the near future, then senior officials will head the delegation." The official explained that the current offer from Hamas is unacceptable to Israel.

Pressuring Hamas

On Monday evening, the Israeli Defense Cabinet unanimously decided to continue the military operation in Rafah, after Hamas announced its acceptance of the Egyptian-Qatari proposal for a truce.

The Council said in a statement: “The War Cabinet unanimously decided that Israel would continue its operation in Rafah in order to exert military pressure on Hamas in order to promote the release of our hostages and achieve the other goals of the war.”

He added: "Although Hamas's proposal is far from Israel's necessary requirements, Israel will send a delegation of mediators to exhaust the possibility of reaching an agreement under conditions acceptable to Israel."

On Monday, Hamas announced its approval of the Egyptian-Qatari proposal for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, according to a statement from the movement.

Israeli media reported that the political community in Israel did not take Hamas' announcement of its acceptance of the truce proposal seriously, noting that Hamas had agreed to a modified version of the proposal that Israel had not yet agreed to.
