Egypt and Brazil upgrade their relationship to the level of a strategic partnership

Egypt Daily News – President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Brazilian President Lula da Silva, on the sidelines of President El-Sisi’s participation in the G20 summit meetings held in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.

The spokesman for the Presidency indicated that the President was keen, at the beginning of the interview, to thank the Brazilian President for inviting Egypt to participate in the G20 activities this year, which reflects Brazil’s appreciation for Egypt’s weight in the Middle East region and on the African continent, praising the distinguished organization of the summit on both substantive levels and procedural.

The Brazilian side was keen to include the priorities of developing countries on the agenda, most notably the launch of the Global Alliance to Combat Hunger and Poverty, in light of the growing geopolitical, economic and social challenges at the global level.

The Brazilian President appreciated the active Egyptian participation in the group’s meetings throughout the year, which supported the needs and priorities of developing countries, stressing his appreciation for the President’s participation in the summit’s work.

The two presidents discussed the regional situation, where President Lula da Silva praised the Egyptian efforts to restore stability in the Middle East and the immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.

President Sisi praised the Brazilian positions that supports the Palestinian cause, which was appreciated by the Brazilian President, who confirmed his country’s great appreciation for the historical Egyptian role in supporting the Palestinian people and their cause.

The two sides agreed on the necessity of implementing the two-state solution, expanding international recognition of the Palestinian state, and rejecting any attempts to liquidate the Palestinian issue.

The spokesman added that the meeting also witnessed the two presidents discussing ways to strengthen bilateral relations, with both countries realizing the importance of enhancing cooperation in light of the convergence of their interests and positions on various issues.

In this context, following the meeting, the two presidents signed a joint statement regarding raising relations between the two countries to the level of a strategic partnership, in a way that achieves the interests and aspirations of the two friendly peoples.
