Egypt and Libya Discuss Military Cooperation and Regional Security During High-Level Talks in Cairo

Senior military leaders from Egypt and Libya held high-level talks in Cairo to review bilateral military cooperation and discuss regional and international developments affecting security and stability in the region, according to an official statement from Egypt’s armed forces.

Field Marshal Abdel Majeed Saqr, Commander-in-Chief of the Egyptian Armed Forces and Minister of Defense and Military Production, met with Lieutenant General Saddam Haftar, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army, who is currently visiting Egypt. The meeting focused on strengthening military ties between the two countries and assessing the latest developments on the regional and international fronts and their implications for regional security.

In a parallel meeting, Lieutenant General Ahmed Khalifa, Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces, also received the Libyan military official. A formal reception ceremony was held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Defense’s General Secretariat, during which the national anthems of both countries were played.

Discussions between the two sides addressed a range of issues of mutual interest, with an emphasis on enhancing bilateral military cooperation and coordination. Egyptian officials reaffirmed the depth of the longstanding relationship between the Egyptian and Libyan armed forces and highlighted the Egyptian military leadership’s commitment to expanding cooperation across various military fields.

Lieutenant General Khalifa stressed the importance of joint efforts to confront threats that could undermine Libya’s security and stability, noting that sustained coordination is essential in light of ongoing regional challenges.

For his part, Lieutenant General Saddam Haftar expressed appreciation for Egypt’s continued support for the Libyan people and its role in preserving Libya’s unity and territorial integrity. He also praised Egypt’s efforts to promote security and stability across the region.

The meetings were attended by a number of senior commanders from both the Egyptian and Libyan armed forces, reflecting the importance both sides attach to strengthening military relations and maintaining close coordination on shared security concerns.
