Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdel Aaty held a bilateral meeting on Monday with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, on the sidelines of the emergency session of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Jeddah. The meeting underscored the growing strategic alignment between Cairo and Riyadh, particularly in light of recent high-level visits and escalating regional crises.
The two ministers praised the deepening momentum in Egyptian-Saudi relations, particularly following President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s visit to Saudi Arabia and his meeting with Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman on August 21. Both sides emphasized the importance of building on the outcomes of that meeting to strengthen their strategic partnership and contribute to regional stability amid ongoing challenges.
A key point of discussion was the humanitarian and security situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, particularly the Gaza Strip. Both ministers reiterated their countries’ firm rejection of the continued Israeli military operations in Gaza and the use of starvation as a method of warfare. They described these practices as clear violations of international law and international humanitarian law, particularly in their targeting of civilians.
Minister Abdel Aaty briefed his Saudi counterpart on Egypt’s ongoing mediation efforts, undertaken in coordination with Qatar, aimed at reaching a ceasefire in Gaza. He stressed the urgency of ensuring the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid and the importance of facilitating the release of hostages and detainees as part of any resolution.
The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to maintaining close coordination between Cairo and Riyadh on regional and international issues. Both ministers agreed on the need to preserve Arab interests and support initiatives that promote peace, security, and stability across the region.
They also expressed their shared interest in activating the Supreme Coordination Council between the two nations at the earliest opportunity to elevate cooperation across various sectors.
