Ahmed Kamel – Egypt Daily News
Egypt’s newly opened Grand Egyptian Museum, a billion-dollar landmark located near the Pyramids, has become the nation’s premier institution for preserving and showcasing its ancient heritage. Housing 50,000 artifacts, including the complete collection of Tutankhamun, the museum is designed to provide Egypt’s treasures with the care, protection, and dignity they deserve.
Despite this, many of the country’s most significant artifacts remain abroad, dispersed across Europe and North America due to colonial-era acquisitions and illicit excavations. Iconic pieces, such as the Rosetta Stone in London, alongside numerous sculptures and jewelry collections, are still held in foreign institutions.

Recent developments, such as the Netherlands’ decision to return a 3,500-year-old statue, demonstrate that repatriation is achievable and set an example for other countries to follow. Egypt is now urging UNESCO and global governments to facilitate the return of its cultural treasures, restoring historical integrity and honoring the shared legacy of human civilization.
Returning these artifacts would not only reinforce respect for cultural heritage but also allow Egypt to fully showcase its rich history at the Grand Egyptian Museum. Please Sign the Petition
