The Egyptian government has strongly condemned the continued expansion of Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip, denouncing what it described as a blatant and escalating violation of international humanitarian law. In an official statement, Egypt criticized Israel’s actions as directly contradicting global efforts to bring an end to the war in Gaza and to contain the broader regional escalation it has triggered.
Cairo emphasized that Israel’s persistent refusal to engage with the ceasefire proposal jointly put forward by Egypt and Qatar reflects a troubling absence of political will to de-escalate the conflict and restore calm. The Egyptian statement warned that this refusal not only undermines diplomatic efforts but also signals a clear intention by Israeli authorities to continue military aggression against civilians in Gaza.
“This ongoing assault threatens to further exacerbate an already catastrophic humanitarian crisis,” the statement read, referencing the harsh conditions imposed by Israel’s blockade and starvation tactics, which continue to impact hundreds of thousands of Palestinian civilians. Egypt expressed grave concern over the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza, calling for immediate international action to alleviate the suffering of the population.
In its remarks, Egypt firmly rejected what it termed Israel’s “aggressive approach,” holding it responsible for destabilizing the region and pushing it toward a dangerous trajectory of prolonged conflict. Cairo also criticized Israel’s persistent expansion of settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories and its retreat from the internationally supported two-state solution framework, warning that such policies only deepen tensions and undermine long-term prospects for peace.
“The continuation of these practices not only obstructs efforts to end the current war but also threatens to ignite a broader conflict with unpredictable consequences,” the statement added.
Egypt’s condemnation adds to the growing chorus of international voices calling for an immediate ceasefire and a return to serious political negotiations. As one of the key regional mediators, alongside Qatar, Egypt has played a central role in attempting to broker a truce and facilitate humanitarian aid. However, the lack of cooperation from the Israeli side, according to Egyptian officials, has left the situation at a dangerous impasse.
The message from Cairo is clear: without genuine commitment from Israel to halt military operations and engage in meaningful peace talks, the region risks spiraling further into violence and instability, with the people of Gaza bearing the brunt of the consequences.
