Cairo has condemned recent Israeli media discourse regarding the concept of a so-called “Greater Israel,” warning that such rhetoric undermines regional stability and threatens ongoing efforts to achieve peace in the Middle East.

In a strongly worded statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, Egypt reaffirmed its longstanding commitment to supporting peace and security across the region. The ministry expressed deep concern over reports in Israeli media that referenced expansionist ideas under the term “Greater Israel,” calling them provocative and contrary to the spirit of peaceful coexistence.

“This type of rhetoric fuels instability and reflects a rejection of the peace option,” the statement said, emphasizing that such narratives only serve to escalate tensions at a time when the region is in urgent need of de-escalation and dialogue.

Egypt called on Israeli authorities to provide official clarifications regarding these reports, stressing that the notions being discussed are incompatible with the aspirations of regional and international actors who are committed to peace and the rule of international law.

The statement reiterated Egypt’s position that sustainable peace in the region cannot be achieved without a comprehensive political solution based on the two-state framework. It emphasized that this must include an end to the ongoing war in Gaza and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Cairo also underscored the importance of resuming peace negotiations and upholding relevant international resolutions as the only viable path toward lasting stability and security for all peoples of the region.

Egypt, which was the first Arab country to sign a peace treaty with Israel in 1979, has long positioned itself as a key mediator in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The country has consistently advocated for a two-state solution and has been actively involved in ceasefire negotiations during the ongoing Gaza war.

The reference to “Greater Israel” a controversial and often undefined concept that implies territorial expansion beyond internationally recognized borders has historically provoked alarm across the Arab world, particularly when raised in political or ideological contexts. Egyptian officials view such discussions as dangerous distractions from peace efforts and potentially incendiary in a region already grappling with complex geopolitical tensions.

As the war in Gaza continues to cause deep humanitarian suffering and regional instability, Egypt’s latest statement signals a clear warning against any moves rhetorical or political that could derail fragile diplomatic efforts or inflame nationalist sentiment.
