Egypt has formally accepted an invitation from U.S. President Donald Trump for President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi to join the newly proposed Board of Peace, marking a significant diplomatic step in ongoing efforts to end the war in Gaza and stabilize the wider Middle East.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the invitation had been accepted and that the necessary legal and constitutional procedures are currently underway. The ministry praised President Trump’s leadership and what it described as his commitment to ending the conflict in Gaza and promoting regional security, peace, and stability.

According to the statement, Egypt views participation in the Board of Peace as part of the second phase of a comprehensive plan to end the Gaza conflict, implemented in accordance with United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803. While details of the board’s structure and mandate have yet to be fully disclosed, it is understood to be aimed at sustaining the ceasefire, coordinating international engagement, and supporting post-conflict stabilization arrangements.

Egypt emphasized that it will continue close coordination with the United States and other international partners to consolidate the ceasefire and ensure the unrestricted flow of humanitarian and relief aid into the Gaza Strip. Cairo also underscored the importance of deploying an International Stabilization Force and enabling the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza to carry out its responsibilities during the transitional phase.

The foreign ministry statement further called for the swift launch of early recovery projects across Gaza, describing them as a necessary precursor to large-scale reconstruction. Egyptian officials have repeatedly argued that improving living conditions and restoring basic services are essential to preventing a relapse into violence and to creating an environment conducive to long-term political solutions.

Reaffirming its long-standing position, Egypt stressed its commitment to advancing a just and lasting peace that guarantees the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state. Cairo said such an outcome remains central to achieving durable security and stability not only in Gaza, but across the broader Middle East.

Egypt has played a central mediating role throughout the Gaza war, leveraging its ties with Palestinian factions, Israel, the United States, and regional actors to broker ceasefires and facilitate humanitarian access. Its decision to join the proposed Board of Peace reflects an effort to translate that mediation role into a more formal international framework aimed at conflict resolution and post-war governance.

The announcement comes amid intensified diplomatic activity focused on preventing a renewed escalation in Gaza and addressing the political vacuum that would follow an end to hostilities. For Egypt, participation in the board aligns with its broader strategy of positioning itself as a key guarantor of regional stability while pushing for a political settlement rooted in international legitimacy and a two-state solution.
