Egyptian authorities have announced the suspension of in-person classes at universities, schools, and religious institutes for two days, as the country braces for unstable weather conditions following official warnings from the Egyptian Meteorological Authority.
Ayman Ashour instructed universities and higher institutes to halt classroom teaching on Wednesday and Thursday, March 25 and 26, shifting instead to online learning to ensure continuity of education while prioritizing student safety.
The decision excludes essential personnel, including medical teams, campus security, and occupational health and safety staff, as well as employees whose roles require physical presence. University leaders have been granted discretion to manage operations based on their institutional needs.
In parallel, Mohamed Abdel Latif ordered the closure of all schools nationwide over the same two-day period. The measure applies to students, teachers, and administrative staff, with officials citing the need to ensure equal conditions for all students and to minimize risks associated with severe weather.
Al-Azhar institutes will also be closed during this period. The decision was issued by Mohamed El-Dewini, acting on directives from Ahmed El-Tayeb, in an effort to safeguard students and staff from potential hazards linked to the anticipated weather instability.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Health and Population has raised the level of preparedness across hospitals and healthcare facilities nationwide. Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar directed medical teams to implement all necessary measures to ensure rapid response to any emergencies.
Official spokesman Hossam Abdel Ghaffar confirmed that emergency protocols have been activated, with hospitals placed on high alert in anticipation of potential weather-related incidents.
The coordinated measures reflect growing concern over the expected impact of severe weather conditions, as authorities urge the public to follow safety guidance and stay updated through official channels.
