Egypt Daily News – On Thursday, an EgyptAir flight from Cairo to Cameroon had to make an emergency landing at Kufra International Airport in Libya due to a passenger going into labor mid-flight.

According to reports from the Egyptian news outlet “Sada El Balad,” the incident occurred aboard flight No. 887/737-800 when a Cameroonian passenger experienced sudden labor pains shortly after takeoff.

In response to the urgency of the situation, the flight’s pilot contacted the nearest airport, Kufra International, to request an emergency landing.

The Libyan news site “Bawabat Al-Wasat” corroborated the reports, emphasizing that the emergency was prompted by the imminent birth of the passenger’s child.

As part of the emergency response, the ambulance service in Kufra mobilized when the airport’s emergency room was informed of the situation.

A convoy consisting of an intensive care vehicle, two ambulances with midwives, and a mobile clinic was dispatched to meet the incoming flight. Libyan security and medical authorities declared a state of alert at the airport to ensure a swift response.

Upon arrival, the medical team immediately attended to the mother and child, ensuring their safe transfer to the Obstetrics and Gynecology Center for further care. The swift actions of the flight crew and the medical responders proved critical in handling this unexpected childbirth during the flight.
