Egypt Daily News – The Minister of Foreign Affairs in the new Syrian Interim Government, Asaad Al-Shaibani, announced that he had received a call from the Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty, making it the first official contact between Egypt and the new administration in Syria.
In his blog post on his official account on the “X” platform, the Syrian Foreign Minister expressed his happiness with the phone call he received from the Egyptian Foreign Minister.
Minister Al-Shaibani explained that his Egyptian counterpart’s call “stressed the importance of the two countries’ role in achieving stability and prosperity for the region.” He stressed the single history that unites Egypt and Syria and the promising future that brings them together.
From the first moment of the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime in Syria and the new administration assuming the reins of the country, the Egyptian Foreign Minister announced Egypt’s clear position “and relies on bias towards the will of the Syrian people” and careful monitoring of what is happening daily.
The Egyptian Foreign Minister said that Egypt hopes that the transition process in Syria will be “smooth and peaceful,” with the need to launch “a comprehensive political process that does not exclude anyone” and expresses the societal, religious, sectarian, and ethnic diversity in the country. All parties must be represented in this transitional process, which must To be the sole property of the Syrians.
The Egyptian Foreign Minister stressed that “no external party can be allowed to interfere to achieve gains at the expense of Syrian sovereignty or territorial integrity.”
In a statement, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry called for the necessity of preserving and supporting the political process, the unity and stability of Syria and its people with all its components and segments, and adopting a comprehensive and inclusive approach for all Syrian national forces, and being consistent with Security Council Resolution 2254, thus paving the way for the participation of all Syrians in shaping the future and rebuilding institutions for the state in sisterly Syria, and its return to regain the position it deserves in the two international systems.
Egypt stressed its keenness to communicate with the “brothers in Syria” and to make every effort to ensure the success of the comprehensive political process that achieves the aspirations of the Syrian people and blocks any attempt to exploit the current conditions to undermine Syria’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.
